Drinks you should Avoid Consuming if you are a Contact Lens Wearer

Everything that you take in habitually affect your entire body system. Your status of health can be predicted for after five years based on the food you consume now. Eating healthy- leafy green vegetables, beans, citrus fruits & staying hydrated is the key to staying young forever. Did you read about “caffeine, tobacco and alcohol” in the healthy food list? Of course no. Since these products leave deleterious effects on human health, they should be avoided when possible. Smoking, high intake of caffeine & taking rounds of alcohol are some of the major causes of dehydration that make contact lenses irritable and leave your eyes dry.

Keeping your eyes moist and hydrated is essential if you wear contact lenses daily for vision correction. Tears facilitate contact lens adoption by helping them float smoothly over cornea. When there is no enough tear production, eyes become dry and tolerance of contact lenses is significantly reduced.

Smoking, Pills & Alcoholic Drinks

It is an established fact that smoking is injurious to health. From destroying your lungs, to kidneys & other vital organs, it also attacks your eyes. Smoking makes your eyes dry, promotes corneal infiltrates & introduce corneal damages. Alcoholic & Caffeine drinks further take you towards remorse. Besides making your eyes dry, high intake of caffeine makes you feel restless, heavy and cause headaches. On the other hand, alcohol rushes a sudden desire to doze off. Alcoholic drinks make you dizzy that alone is a threat if you wear contact lenses- sleeping or napping in contact lenses is strictly prohibited by experts.

Some medications such as birth control pills may also make it uncomfortable to wear contact lenses. Talk to your doctor if this happens.

Though temporary dryness is relieved by using eye drops compatible with contact lenses, it is ingenious to develop healthy food habits. As per doctors, for every cup of caffeine and alcohol; you should consume an additional cup of water to keep yourself hydrated. Take 2 liters of water every day to keep your eyes functioning properly. It detoxifies, promotes swift blood circulation & above all keep your tear chemistry balanced so that you continue to enjoy wearing your favorite colored contact lenses.

Halloween: 3 Bad Combinations with Contact Lenses

cyrenncreations

A lot have already been written about contact lenses being safe (FDA approved). Unless fake & counterfeit contact lens production is strictly monitored; availability of contact lenses for consumers will always remain a subject of conflict. As per medical authorities branded FDA approved circle contacts pose minimum threats because they have already been tested prior to pushing them into the market. However, one must not forget that contact lenses even with all the health certifications need proper regulation. Wearers must observe caution as contact lenses are medical devices and other decorative/medical accessories might contraindicate when used along with them. Halloween is apparently fun but it holds hidden dangers that you should stay vigilant of, specifically if you plan to wear crazy contact lenses with your costume.

Glow Sticks

Glow sticks contain a luminescent liquid that help them glow in the dark. The stick if gets broken may spill out the content, causing temporary inflammation. According to Donna Taylor, certified specialist in poison information at the Tennessee Poison Center, the content is more of an irritant than actually toxic. If accidentally licked or swollen, trying a Popsicle or fuzzy drink will help improving the sour throat.  Care should be taken that the stick’s incandescent liquid does not contaminate contact lenses.  The content may develop corneal rash or stinging sensation. Immediately remove contact lenses and wash your eyes with cold water splashes. Contact poison control center if irritation, swelling or discharge persists.

Alcoholic Drinks
We all know that alcohol in excessive quantity is harmful. Alcoholic drinks are drying for the body and may cause dehydration. Therefore, avoid consuming too much of the alcohol whilst you party out like a ghoul with decorative contact lenses still in the eyes.

Face Paints

Before painting your face read the labels carefully. Some paints contain lead and other metals that are harmful and poisonous. These paints leave skin rash against which your body may react severely. Always do a patch test. Take care that face paints do not flake upon drying. The gunky particles of the face paint and craft glitters may sting your eyes bad. They leave scratches on contact lenses, which as it sounds is greatly gross. Only use FDA approved cosmetics, contact lenses & SFX paints to stay edgy.

If you can be concerned about the candy being safe for consumption that you won in trick-o-treat, then how can you lag insanely on these Halloween preparations? Spread awareness & stay alert before you make someone faint in your horror house this Halloween. Health comes first then come fun!

3 Things to Consider when Wearing Circle Lenses in a Party

Party is all about fun, mega thrill & excitement. During a crazy get together of friends you need to watch your steps especially if you are wearing circle lenses. Circle lenses are medical devices and yes! Enough of the hammering has already been done on this subject. Though FDA approved circle lenses are safe to wear, they call out for attention & careful handling. Ignoring the precautions given below might cost you lifetime vision loss or corneal damage

Avoid Drinking Alcohol

Alcohol makes you feel dizzy & hazy. Having rounds of alcohol can cause tripping & dozing. To avoid accidental naps with circle lenses it is best advised to put them off when you are about to begin the alcoholic sessions. Circle lenses should not be worn when you sleep as it deprives oxygen needs which may lead to gross ocular injuries in unfortunate cases.

Watch out! Party Poppers!

Friends are crazy, they bump & jump! Unfortunately they even dump! Be careful when you are in a party where fanatic lads and lasses are willing to cross any limits to merry. Party poppers contain air pressure, strings & components that must not be used directly around people, animals & near fire places. If you notice your friends going lunatic with confetti & poppers; take care of yourself & move away. The confetti if gets into eyes mistakenly can mess with circle lenses. The tiny glittery particles can adhere to the circle lenses, cause scratches and tear them in the eyes. This may lead to corneal abrasions & vision loss.

Ditch the BBQ Grill

The smoke from BBQ and grill is not strong enough to melt your circle lenses but it can cause blurred vision. Smoke can irritate the eyes as the other environmental factors such as spices, onion fumes and coal pieces etc can disturb the lens adhesion. Don’t roam about the BBQ grills & fire places to help saving your eyes when wearing circle lenses.
