3 Ways to Rock a Synthetic Wig with a Beanie

Beanie is a knitted loose hat; a necessity in winter but serves more as a style statement. Though wearing beanie in summer proves you a dare-devil, the beauty it adds to one's style cannot be neglected. Alternatively, a floral garland can be used in place of a beanie in summer. Choosing a beanie needs a mature sense of fashion; more if you want to accentuate your synthetic wig using bean hats.

Choosing the Color & Design of a Beanie

Beanie is inclined more towards the juvenile fashion. However, at the same time it depicts sophistication if chosen carefully. When choosing a bean hat to accentuate the bangs or to divert attention to the tousles of your favorite synthetic wig; keep it less adorned & less embellished. A beanie would be able to pop up against the color of your synthetic wig, only if it is a neutral shade. Decent colors such as tan, brown and grey also help making an impact.

Wearing a Beanie to Rock a Synthetic Wig

Women love wearing beanie hats because of the comfort they provide. A beanie does not only keep you warm but also help you stand out from the crowd when paired up with a synthetic wig.

Wearing a Beanie over Synthetic Wig for a Casual Look

In day time wear your beanie loosely. It should sit over your skull very comfortably. The front brim of the beanie should sit just above your eye brows, covering your forehead and ears. Don’t pull it all the way down. Let your tousles bounce at either of your shoulders.

Wearing a Beanie over Synthetic Wig for an Outgoing Casual Look

For an outgoing casual look, rock your synthetic wig wearing a beanie in the “Peter Pan” style. This way, your hat sits loosely over your forehead. It is slightly folded at the back that keeps the hat off your neck. This style is recommended when you are wearing a synthetic wig with hidden bangs or no bangs. It also helps creating an illusion of smaller forehead in case you bear a wide forehead line.

Wearing a Beanie for a Glamorous Style against Synthetic Wig

If you are in fun mood today, spruce up a dip dyed synthetic wig with a black/white beanie. Wear your beanie a bit more loosely, further up on your head. Side sweeps your bangs and let them stay out. Tease your tresses or scrunch them for a perfect beach-wave look.

Wearing a Beanie for an Urban Chic Style Statement against Synthetic Wig

To exhibit your love for city fashion, wearing a beanie just at the line of your bangs help. Leave your mane down as it prevents any strange bulges your hair may cause underneath a beanie if wrapped otherwise.

Do you like to wear a beanie? Have you also experienced the meanings it is capable of adding to your synthetic wig?

How to Take Odors out of Synthetic Wig: 2 DIY Methods to Get Rid of Rancid Smell off your Synthetic Wigs

Disclaimer: Courtesy Unknown. (The image is not a property of Uniqso)

Factory made & freshly opened synthetic wigs should not contain any smell. Yet, depending upon the supplier synthetic wigs might carry pungent smell of chemicals often time. Synthetic wigs also absorb smells from the environment such as smoke from cooking, fire, tobacco etc. Wearing synthetic wigs over time without taking care to wash it also produces bad sweaty smell that do not dissipate easily. Deposits and oil secreted by scalp glands turn wigs dirty and make them stink. In order to remove the foul-smell out of synthetic wigs, try one of the following DIY methods.

Apple Cider Vinegar Dilution

Since synthetic wigs are finished by alkaline to protect the hair fiber & to keep them heat-resistant, they might generate unpleasant or nasty smells. If the smell does not go even after ordinary washing then it is time to roll the sleeves up for an extra step! Prepare a solution of Apple cider vinegar with water in 4:1 ratio. Mix it well & let your wig soaked in the solution for 20-30 minutes. The vinegar will work out to remove the white film off of your wig. This film is actually the product buildup & chemicals clinging to your synthetic wig. This method is also recommended to people who are allergic to synthetic wigs just because of the chemicals or dyes used in the manufacturing.

Baking Soda

Baking soda is a wonderful agent to deodorize synthetic wigs. It also is considered a good alternative to wig shampoo. To use baking soda, fill your washing sink with ¾ of water & add 1/4th cup of baking soda. Dissolve it completely to prevent chalky residue and soak your synthetic wig for 4 hours. Wash your synthetic wig as you usually do & let it air dry.

After you are done with either of these DIY methods; spray off your synthetic wigs with a DIY wig conditioner. Wig conditioner keeps your wig soft, smooth & style intact. It also adds a natural shine & sweet fragrance to your synthetic wigs that you might have purchased after making heavy savings out of your limited pocket money.

DOs & DONTs of Synthetic Wigs

Synthetic Wigs

The best thing about synthetic wigs is the fact they require minimal care. Synthetic wigs allow you to wear your hair neatly everyday without having to put much effort. This makes them great fashion accessory that actually serve you practically. However, to make the most of your investment it is necessary to use your wigs gently & sensibly. A good synthetic wig should last you a year provided you wash it carefully per 18-20 wears. Synthetic wigs keep the style memory yet there are certain bad habits that may turn your wigs look retard & worse.

4 DOs of Synthetic Wigs

  1. Since synthetic hair wigs retain the default style; you only need to shake it gently. This will get it back into the factory built style after every wash. In case you find your wig looks tired, spritz it with a DIY wig conditioner mist.
  2. If your synthetic wig looks way too shiny, sparingly dust cornstarch powder or talcum powder. Work your fingers through it.
  3. Long wigs should be stored carefully. Braided, coiled & secured in original packaging.
  4. Wear a wig cap to protect your natural hair beneath the wig. Wig cap prevents scalp oil reaching wig thus keeps the wig new wears after wears

4 DONTs of Synthetic Wigs

  1. Do not over-expose synthetic wigs to heat. Be very careful whilst working at stoves, BBQ grills and ovens.
  2. Do not use regular shampoo & conditioner to clean & hydrate wigs
  3. Do not brush/comb synthetic wigs when they are wet.
  4. Do not sleep wearing wigs.

Synthetic wigs are economical than human hair wigs. They also last you longer & do not fade. Since everything requires care & maintenance; synthetic hair wigs too require gentle handling. These pointer notes when followed religiously every time you wear a wig you actually add up a wear more to its lifespan.

Can I Swim or Shower Wearing My Synthetic Wig?

Synthetic wigs are preferred worldwide because they are inexpensive, easier to maintain & style and are light weight. Synthetic wigs offer several benefits over human hair wigs but they do have limitations. Synthetic wigs can be taken under water for photo-shoots but swimming &shower with synthetic wigs should be avoided.

Swimming with Synthetic Wigs

If your cosplay requires you to go under water with your synthetic wig on; make sure that it does not budge or slip. Synthetic wigs do feel lighter than natural hair wigs, but they may behave totally opposite under water so be ready for a slightly heavier experience when under water with your synthetic wig on head. For photo-sessions it is better you choose a natural water resource than a pool. Pool water contains chlorine, chemicals and salts that can harm the fibers. The damage by pool water is often irrevocable for instance it can affect the color, or may make it dull by turning it fizzy or dry. Swimming exerts pressure & also develops impudent tangles that are often too stubborn to get rid of.

Taking a shower with Synthetic Wigs

Taking a shower with synthetic wig on is the worst you will ever do to harm your wig. Synthetic wigs need gentle handling. They are to be washed with specially formulated synthetic hair wig shampoos with soft, swishing & twirling hand motions. Aggressive rubbing that is expected in an ordinary shower may ruin the fibers of your synthetic wigs and thus should be 100% avoided. Furthermore, the soapy deposits can destroy the real feel of a wig therefore putting your synthetic hair wig off should always be ensured before taking bath.

Synthetic wigs can be worn right out of the box yet need little maintenance, this however does not mean that they need ‘no’ care at all. They should be handled gently & kept away from unnecessary exposure of water as washing your wigs uselessly reduces the age of your synthetic wigs.

3 Things that Damage your Synthetic Wigs

3 Things that Damage your Synthetic Wigs

Synthetic hair wigs are economical than human hair wigs. They last longer than natural wigs and make it easier for you to style them. Synthetic wigs are good to invest in but few careless practices can shorten the life span of your wigs by damaging the beauty.

1. Heat: Even those synthetic wigs made from 100% heat-resistant fibers can be damaged from excessive & harsh heating. Be very careful when you are about to face the heat exposure. A heat-resistant synthetic hair wig can be dyed, curled & ironed but caution should be demonstrated as heating the wigs repetitively make them lack-lustrous, dry & brittle. Furthermore, heat-treating wigs bring irrevocable style-changes; making it impossible to bring the wig back into the factory-built style & shape.

2. Shampoos & Conditioners: Avoid shampoos and conditioners meant for natural hair wig. They can be harsh on synthetic fibers and some chemicals or ingredients can make those fibers melt or go gooey.

3. Hair Brushes & Combs: Synthetic wigs should always and only be brushed using a wig brush. The normal brush can tear the fibers, therefore use only a wired-brush i.e. specially manufactured for combing synthetic wigs

Synthetic hair wigs are cooler and lighter in weight than natural hair wigs. It is easier to maintain synthetic wigs. These wigs if taken care of can last you quite long, some says even more than a year. Keep your natural hair clean and shampooed when wearing synthetic wigs to prevent your wings turning soiled earlier than expected.

Can I Dye My Synthetic Hair Wig? Things to Consider while Dying Synthetic Wigs

It is presumed that synthetic wigs cannot be dyed; fortunately this is just a myth. All type of synthetic hair wigs can be dyed, though dying wigs made from synthetic fibers requires practice, patience & skills.

Important Things to Note When Dying Synthetic Wigs
Can I Dye My Synthetic Hair Wig? Things to Consider while Dying Synthetic Wigs

  • Synthetic wigs are made from colored plastic fibers. On the other hand, wigs made from natural hair are porous, that take color dyes more easily than synthetic wigs. Synthetic wigs should not be dyed using ordinary hair dyes, instead use acrylic paints or acrylic inks.
  • Acrylic paints need huge care & practice as it often results in clumping that make wigs look very artificial. Acrylic inks though are not available in as wide range of colors as are paints, these are the best dyes to dye synthetic wigs, as they give you full control over your wig in terms of color handling.
  • A wig should be left for complete air drying. If your wig is thick and long you might want to give your wig duration of 2-3 days to let it dry.
  • Do not dye your synthetic wigs using dyes that include bleach. Bleaching plastic fibers of wigs may make them crinkly and misshaped. It is advised to cut a wisp out of your hair wig & test the dye swatch over it.
  • Some synthetic wigs are good at holding the color whilst others do not. It is observed that synthetic wigs irrespective of their quality fade color more quickly than natural hair wigs even if you wash them less often.
RED Notes about Dying Synthetic Wigs
  1. ALWAYS REMEMBER, that synthetic wigs can only be dyed darker. Therefore, begin your “dying venture” with a light colored wig. To start with, some great shades are blond, grey, and WHITE. The principle of dying synthetic wigs is “Either cover the parent color or create a new one with it”. For instance you can dye a blond wig pink or a yellow wig green by dyeing the latter blue; but a red wig can’t be made pink or yellow.
  2. Acrylic inks do not dissolve in water. Try using alcohol to dye synthetic wigs. Natural dyes should strictly be avoided as they turn wigs reddish though this can be prevented using dye additives. Ordinary hair dyes also behave differently on synthetic wigs as they always end up making your wigs a shade or two darker than you might have expected.
  3. BEFORE beginning to dye your synthetic hair wigs, WASH them off completely. Rinsing them is mandatory to get rid of any styling products and oils that might prevent effective dying of your wig.
Synthetic wigs are resilient to its shape, so no matter what how you treat them they will get back to their factory-made style and shape. Though our synthetic wigs can be temporarily curled if they are straight or vice-versa, these wigs keep memory of the style they were manufactured with, so it is natural of them to revert back to their original shape.

Is it Necessary to Wear a Wig Cap with Synthetic Hair Wigs?

How to wear a Wig Cap- Step by step

The basic purpose of a wig cap is to protect your natural hair from breakage and damage. Though some people do not prefer wearing a wig cap underneath a wig, the opposite however has brought about positive feedback in regards with comfort, security & peace of mind.

A wig cap that is made of nylon mesh-weave let you wear your own hair under a wig peacefully. It allows breathing, keeping your scalp getting greasy & prevents your hair from turning dry.

Why Should I Wear a Wig Cap?
  • Wearing a wig cap is essential if you have long and thick hair. It helps you securing your hair under it, covering all the wisps, flyaways & even irregular bangs.
  • It flattens your hair to provide a rather compact & smooth appearance for your wig to rest on. This way a wig gracefully grips your scalp and limits fidgeting.
  • If your hair are too short (pixie cut or a boyish cut) to be tucked under a wig cap, it is probably indicating that you can safely skip it.
  • Wig cap reduces friction between your natural hair and wig. This it prevents thinning of hair
  • If you wear a wig daily for longer durations, a wig cap is 100% essential. Choose a wig cap that provides you with a comfortable wearing experience than turning your scalp scratchy, itchy or opposite.

A wig cap vows for a better fit. People wearing caps underneath wigs opine that it greatly enhances their appearance plus it becomes easier to conceal the stray hair strands under it with a wig. Even with all of the said benefits, wearing a wig cap is completely a personal preference. It should neither feel lose, nor tight- just feel secure and snug. If it makes you feel happy, go for it. If does not, feel free to skip it.

9 Tips to Grow your Hair Healthy When Wearing a Synthetic Wig in a Routine

9 Tips to Grow your Hair Healthy When Wearing a Synthetic Wig in a Routine

Wearing synthetic hair wig plays great to reinsure the lost confidence in people with hair loss. Not only this, synthetic hair wigs are most commonly sought when a style enhancement is required. Fear dying your hair as chemically treating it may damage the shine? Wearing a synthetic wig of your favorite color will do the job. Synthetic wigs are helping people, however an alarming number of people unfortunately neglect to wear their own hair carefully. To maintain your hair healthy when wearing wigs in a routine, follow the tips given below:
  • Choose Breathable Wigs
Wear only those synthetic wigs that let your natural hair breathe. Check if the wig comes with a lacey wig cap as this allows the flow of air & prevents friction to some extent.
  • Keep your Hair Moisturized
Wearing synthetic hair wigs in daily routine for longer durations dry out your hair. An ill-fitted wig may further aggravate in destroying your natural hair. Therefore, keep your hair enough moisturized.
  • Shampoo your Natural Hair Frequently
It is crucial to keep your natural hair clean. Regularly shampoo & condition your hair in order to keep your wigs clean. Wearing synthetic wigs over messy and untidy hair reduces the life of the wig short.
  • Go for a Head Massage
When wearing synthetic wigs daily with no intervals, it is recommended to have essential oil head-massage. Wigs limit the circulation and to stimulate the blood-flow back into follicles, an oil massage is recommended.
  • Avoid Wearing  Several Products under a Wig
Wearing lots of products under a wig such as serums, oils, and gels should be avoided. It results in clogged pores, product buildup and greasy hair which turn your wigs soiled and grubby.
  • Wear Wig Cap only When Necessary
Wearing a wig cap thins hair line and it also plucks away hair from nape and from behind the ear (the place where the ear tabs of the wig rests). Braiding your hair is a better alternate than wearing a wig cap.
  • Watch for Snagging Hair
When wearing a wig, make sure that the frizzy flyaways and wisps are tucked carefully under the wig or wig cap. Secure them through bobby pins or clasps that do not exert pressure. Using a long tail pick-comb push all your snagging hair inside the wig as snagging hair is the major cause of hair loss through breakage.
  • Allow your Hair Ample Supply of Sunshine
Sunshine is a natural source of Vitamin D which is responsible for healthy hair growth & shine. Observe intervals when wearing a wig and let your natural hair breathe into open air, receiving an ample supply of sunlight.
  • Damp Hair? Say ‘NO’ to Wig
DO NOT wear synthetic wigs when your natural hair is still wet or damp. Covering wet hair with a wig cap or wig turns your scalp into the breeding bed of germs and fungal microorganisms. Wearing wigs over damp hair also destroys the wig and wig’s fiber may even start to shed off.

Synthetic hair wigs keep you beautiful, however you definitely would not want to risk the beauty of your natural hair that is going to last you forever. Do not risk your natural hair for temporary looks by ignoring these “Healthy Hair Rules”.
